About AFT KY 1360

Organized by faculty in Kentucky’s community colleges, KY 1360 was chartered in 1997 by the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). In 2010 the unions for the community colleges and for the technical colleges merged to form the current AFT KY 1360 chapter you know today!

AFT KY 1360 represents members at each of the sixteen community and technical colleges in KCTCS. It is governed by its Executive Council, comprised of elected officers and elected college representatives.

Since its inception, AFT KY 1360 has been extremely influential in affecting state legislation that directly and indirectly impacts its members.  Among other things, AFT KY 1360 has pushed for legislation to: offer free college credits at state institutions for KCTCS employees; maximize employee pay raises; ban concealed weapons on college campuses; protect employees from losing existing job benefits; secure faculty, staff and student representation on governing boards; and much more.

AFT KY 1360 advocates well researched and sound policies for higher education, high academic standards, and the working conditions needed to maintain them. Local union KY 1360 is affiliated with the 1.7 million-member American Federation of Teachers, representing public employees, Pre-K-12 teachers, paraprofessionals and school-related personnel, nurse and health professionals, and higher education faculty, staff, and graduate employees.
